How can I purchase a car for my father in Liberia and have a minimal risk of being scammed?
Q. I live with my wife and children in Atlanta, Georgia. I have been supporting my family in Liberia since my graduation from college. How can I purchase a car for my father in Liberia safely without being scammed out of my money because he does not speak english. I can not afford to travel there at this time. Would it be safer to ship a vehicle there than it would be to send the money and have a stranger that I do not know assist my father in purchasing a car from someone in a neighboring country?

Should I purchase plane tickets from a travel site or directly from the airline?
Q. Some friends and I are planning a group trip to Amsterdam next year but, like most, we need to save as much money as we can. Is a travel site enough? Is it worth the time and effort to research and purchase from an airline directly? Any additional tips will be very much appreciated! Thanks guys!
Asked by Janice - Tue Apr 21 21:36:08 2009 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Try to buy your tickets about 90 days before the departure date. That's when they're cheapest. Do a lot of research on different travel websites. Also, you can get A LOT of great deals if you are in college or under 26. Best of luck!

A. Have you tried Gelhausen On Green River? Also maybe even Peckenpaughs (I am a west-saider) Other than that I say try the Rural King on St. Joe if you haven't already, and if you went to that one then try the Morgan avenue one. Hope this helped!

what can Firefighters purchase with their clothing allowance ?
Q. what type of clothes can they get, can they only get their uniforms or can they purchase clothes like sweat pants, hats, and shirts and things like that ?

A. When I was in the military we got a yearly clothing allowance too. But instead of buying a uniform, most guys were so poor they used the extra money for bills. That said, I see no reason you can't buy hats, sweats, shirts and things like that.

Where can I purchase trees to plant for a dollar?
Q. My company is having a health fair and we are incorporating the green living aspect. As a gift we wanted to donate a dollar a tree and be able to give the tree to the employees for them to plant. I know on arborday.org you can purchase them for $3.00, but I use to see them less expensive. I know $3.00 is not much, but I have to stay within a certain amount for the budget. Any suggestions??? Thanks!

A. I would contact your local National Arbor Foundation for help. They sometimes can point you to sponsers who are willing to give organizations trees for the planting. Also, google "seed catalog" and "plant catalogs" to view their catalogs online. Many will offer specials for that price at this time of year. Usually it`s white pines, weeping willows, or some such cheaper type tree.

Celebrities purchase their mansions through a family trust or just a trust, What does that mean?
Q. Common 9 to 5 people purchase their homes through the bank by putting so much down and the bank will lend the rest but I hear celebrities purchase their homes through a trust or a family trust. Can anyone explain that to me?
Asked by william p - Sat Mar 27 04:45:45 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The most common type of trust would be a (revocable) living trust, which still gives you rights to do anything with it as long as you are living. It does NOT protect it from creditors, lawsuits, or taxes but passes it on to heirs without going through probate (probate can cost a lot of money). A non-revocable trust could protect it from a lawsuit against you personally, but you would no longer have any control over it, and would not be able to sell it or make changes to the trust. So I doubt if they would do that unless they were dying. My sister has her home in a living trust, so it can benefit her daughters without her ex being able to get his hands on it (he already got her 401k, while she got the home free and clear).

What is the best online store to purchase home schooling materials?
Q. I want to send a gift certificate to my sister-in-law so she can purchase educational materials for my nephews. However, I want to avoid common suppliers such as Amazon.com because I then doubt the money will go to the kids. Where might I find grants for the purchase of a stair lift for the elderly?
Q. I am in the process of purchasing a new home and all secondary bedrooms are on the second floor. I take care of my grandmother and she is in denial about her ability. So in order for her to move around the house easily and allow her to be close to my daughter I would like to install a lift system on the stairs. But I was wondering if there are any grants available to assist in the purchase of the lift chair.
Asked by Twiggy - Mon Jan 14 14:38:02 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. There are grants available - they are called Disabled Facility Grants and will depend on your Local Authority on how these are carried out. In my area the Local Authority uses a Home Improvement Agency that organise the works to be carried out. Initially you will need to get in touch with Social Services (the Occupational Therapists) in order that they can make a fully qualified assessment of your grandmother's needs and make a recommendation. It can be a long process, but again it depends on the Local Authority. Hope that has helped

What do walmart employees use as the purchase date for their stocks?
Q. My mom works at walmart and she says that each paycheck they deduct a small amount and put towards a stock. This last tax year he sold his stock, but when he received the information in the mail there is a sell date but no purchase date. When she is filing his taxes what does she use as the purchase date?
Asked by Jessica N - Sun Apr 12 08:56:39 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Dear JN: You should report the sale as (FIFO). First stock she bought is the first stock she sells. First in First out. If all the stocks she sold are over one year in the account they are all long term. If all are under one year they are all short term (gain). Some computer programs have a selection of various and then you pick the category-long or short. A. I beleive you need to have a John Doe lease made up to show that it is rented or have your daughter sign it. You should be able to get a regular loan at least that is what I have done. When I did not have a lease they did not want to give me a loan without a big down payment. The loan you will be signing should be no diffrent than what you already have. The intrest rate will be a maybe a 7% instead of a 6.

Can I purchase a home after paying everyting on my credit report?

Asked by rjgarcia5 - Tue Sep 9 08:56:02 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You need to go to annualcreditreport.com and pull your credit reports after about 3 months has passed since you paid it all off. If you credit has been good for atleast 6 months to a year. If you have been on the same job or similar job for a year or more if you have sufficient savings to cover your closing costs if you have your utility bills paid, and a good reference from your landlord. I would go to your local Credit union and open an account if you don't have a regular savings at a bank. Always try to finance through your own bank or a credit union, Compare rates, try to get the best interest rate, get your loan pre approved before you shop for a new home, they will tell you what your limits are. Keep in mind what you truly can… [cont.]

I live and work in Pennsylvania and want to purchase a mobile home in South Carolina through a mortgage company , but was told by my real estate agen it is not possible as I do not work in South Carolina . I was approved for the loan , but was then told because I am not employed in the state I could not , not with a mobile . Why is this so ?

A. That makes no sense at all unless he was telling you that you couldn't qualify for a mortgage because you do not live there. I would communicate with the mortgage company and a real estate agent who knows the rules in SC.
