A. Apparently back in the old days, popcorn vendors would "set up shop" outside theaters. The theater managers didn't like this, thinking it was a distraction. But moviegoers disagreed, frequently ducking out to buy popcorn and then ducking back in to see the movie. Movie Theater owners realized they could pop their own popcorn and did so they started popping thier own popcorn in the theater creating this trend.

How do i replace patches of lost popcorn on the ceiling?
Q. My husband and I thought that a good weekend project would be to paint the bedroom. We tried to paint the ceiling which had popcorn on it - unfortunately a couple of patches came loose in the process. Does anyone know if this means that we have to remove all the popcorn and repaint or is there any way that we can cover the patches? We are complete newbies at painting and are very confused. Thanks in advance!
Asked by confused - Sat Feb 16 23:50:57 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Easy. Most paint stores carry ceiling patch. Popcorn patch is available under the Lepage brand. P.S. when painting textured ceilings, you may want to use aklyd paint (latex softens some textures).

How do commercial popcorn companies get the seasoning to stick so well to the popcorn. What is the process?
Q. Looking for strategies employed to get salt and other dry seasonings to stick better and evenly coat popped popcorn. Good suggestions. I do typically throw butter and seasoning together and add while it is hot. I still find a good deal drops to the bottom, so seeing if anyone had any knowledge on how the big companies achieve, let's call it "maximum seasonage"
Asked by David - Tue Jun 16 17:52:46 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It's all about the fat! Typically, in bagged popcorn, the seasoning is mixed in with the fat and is in a mushy, solid state. Same thing goes with the kind at the movie theater. There's so much fat/butter on the popcorn and that's what the seasoning sticks too. When I make popcorn at home I always season in the pot with the kernels and then again right after it's done popping. If you're still looking for more flavor, try infusing your oil with garlic or herbs.

How do make popcorn in a popcorn maker?
Q. I have a popcorn maker. It is 2 pieces and it looks like you put popcorn seeds in the bottom and it pops out the top hole. But do I have to add any oil or butter? salt? before I add the popcorn seeds or during? Ive never made it like this before. Ive never used a machine!
Asked by browneyebuttafly - Sat Jun 14 22:49:23 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. sounds like an air popper. If you plug it in and it has air that comes out the top it uses hot air to pop the popcorn. All you do is take about a 1/4 Cup of raw popcorn and put it in the machine. Put the cover on it and put a large bowl under the shoot. The popcorn will pop and shoot into the bowl. add your salt after the popcorn is done and in the bowl. ( you could also add melted butter to the popcorn after it is popped and in the bowl) the machine requires nothing to cause the popcorn to pop other than the heat and the fan.

A. I got this from the Betty Crocker cookbook I got for a wedding gift way back in 1989, and it always works for me! I make and eat a lot of popcorn--and have never had any problems with this: Have your popcorn bowl ready and by the stove!!! *coat the bottom of deep pan with veggie oil (I use Orville's butter flavor). I use about 2-3 T. You want maybe 1/8 inch *Put in enough corn to completely cover the bottom but not overlap--only one layer! Save salt for later, it makes kernals tough while popping. *Put on lid (leaving a bit--1/4 inch if possible-- of open space on the back side of the pot), and turn on gas-I go medium high because my range runs hot. You may want to try just a bit past medium high, but not quite high. *Wait for one kernal… [cont.]

I got it online from www.moldrx4u.com It's always worked so maybe it would work for the popcorn stain. They have more information about it on their site. (Just a tip, Thieves works wonderful for getting rid of mold.) Heather

Asked by Trix_R_not_4_kids - Mon Jul 23 18:04:44 2007 - - 15 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You can do it on the stove or in the microwave. If you do it in the microwave you put about a 1/4 cup of kernels in a paper lunch sack. Staple it closed with one staple and put it in the microwave for a couple minutes or until the popping slows you will have to watch and see because it depends on the microwave. Add butter and salt if you like. I have never made it on the stove there are probably directions on the kernel container.

A. Actually, the process is an easy one. Messy, but easy. First, get some thin plastic, masking tape, a taping knife (flat and flexible blade), and a "bug sprayer" from you local home improvement joint. Cover everything, then mask off the walls just below the ceiling. Fill the sprayer with warm water, then spray the popcorn lightly and let the water soak in. if you do this a couple of times, when you scrape the ceiling with the taping knife, the popcorn will fall off easily and effortlessly. Just be careful not to over soak the ceiling. Using water also helps eliminate nasty dust problems that happen when scraping "dry". Hope that helps.
