In Spanish,"yo voy" vs. "yo me voy, nosotros nos vamos" vs. "nosotros vamos" etc. whats the difference? Usage?
Q. I have a Spanish audio program and on it, I initially learned "ir," the verb for "to go." My current stage in the program, however, introduced "yo me voy," in which the speaker translates into "I, myself, am going." I still don't get it though! What's the difference? If I say "yo voy al hotel", that means "I'm going to the hotel." So if one says "yo ME voy al hotel", doesn't that mean the same thing; That you're going to the hotel. Perhaps I've misunderstood something, who knows, nevertheless, could someone please help me out and let me know if there's a major difference and/or a proper usage/ context/ time of the term(s). Thank You.

A. In the strictest sense. IRSE (me voy, nos vamos) means "to leave" or "to go away" and often will NOT have a destination mentioned. Ex: Adios, ya me voy. = Bye, I am leaving. "Vete de aqui"(the vete is two words "ve" and "te" run together) means "Go away!" (Lit. "Leave from here") Vamonos (again two words written as one 'vamos' and 'nos' means "Let's go (away)" (Let's leave), but the question " Nos vamos?" is " Are we leaving?" IR (voy, vamos) means "to go" and will almost always have a destination. But, the two expressions are frequently interchanged. Don't sweat it. Another picky point of usage, if you use just "voy" you should say "a" to indicate the destination. "Voy A la playa." "I am going to the beach." If you say… [cont.]

Question about indirect objects in Spanish and Gusta?
Q. For an assignment my classmate and I need to say what we like to do in the fall, winter, spring and summer. I am a little confused on something. Can I say in the summer we like; " En el verano nos gusta," or do I have to say, "En el verano a nosotros nos gusta?" The second one just seems too long, and it seems like nos would already imply "we." Thanks.

Help with Spanish verb Mudarse?
Q. I am correcting my Spanish writing. I am trying to say "We will move my things to my new apartment." I am thinking "Nosotros nos mudaremos mis cosas a mi apartamento nuevo" but I am not sure about the "nos" as the reflexive verb. Should it be "se"?? Gracias por tu ayuda!

A. We will move my things to my new apartment. Mudaremos mis cosas a mi nuevo apartamento. I don't think this sentence can be the structure you said: "Nosotros NOS mudaremos... " Because this means that you will move too, and in the English sentence the verb MOVE is just to THINGS. No, it shouldn't. I hope this helps you. I want to share with you this page: You can put any Spanish verb you want, and it will conjugate it in all tenses. =) Have a nice night.

Which is correct Spanish?
Q. Neither of these really make sense, but which would be grammatically correct: a.Nosotros nos gustaba or b.Nosotros nos gustabamos It would mean we liked us, but this is the argumen we were having with our Spanish teacher. Which is correct? That makes sense. Our teacher is horible with her English. I guess it isn't her fault, she tries. Anyways, what if the thing that we used to like is plural? Would you have to say gustaban, or would it still be gustaba?

A. LOL! It's a parody of the "Our Father" prayer in Spanish, "Padre Nuestro" and a bit of the "Hail Mary" ("Ave Maria") but it involves soccer. "Santo Palermo, Padre del Gol, hagase a nosotros tu orto, y no nos dejes caer en la eliminacion, y libranos de los basileros festejando, amen." "Holy Palermo, father of the goal, let your worst be done; lead us not into elimination, but deliver us from the celebrating Brazilians. Amen" ETA: "festejar" = to celebrate or to be festive. Palermo is a soccer player from Argentina. I'm not 100% positive on "orto" since it's Argentine slang, but I'm pretty sure it's vulgar for "really bad" or "worst"

Spanish past tense help?
Q. Say you want to conjugate a verb with the reflexive pronoun at the end of it to the past tense such as: andar solo por los senderos y perderse How would I conjugate 'perderse'? Does it matter if I put se perdio or perdiose? is there a difference or when I should know to use which one of the two? Also, you are supposed to change the 'se' to reflect the subject of the sentence right? example, Yo = me, Nosotros = nos?
Asked by tea kettle - Fri Aug 8 22:52:05 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Okay...first of all, you would say "Anduvo solo por los senderos y se perdio" in order to write your sentence in the third person singular (he, she, it, Ud.). Yes, your reflexive pronouns (me, te, se, nos) need to come before your conjugated verbs when you have one simple verb in the clause. You will find in older, old-fashioned Spanish (and possibly in jouralism) some exceptions to this rule, but it's standard none-the-less. You need to change your reflexive pronoun to me, te, etc., to make it match the subject of your sentence.
