How does financial services (charity/discount) work at hospitals? How much can I be discounted?
Q. I'm about to apply for financial aid at a hospital making $11/hr @ 30hrs/week and was wondering anybody's experience with these services. I know it's on an individual basis, but I was wondering the success of some individuals that have tried it before. Currently, I'm a temp and make $11/hr and less than 40 hours per week. I pay $700/month rent including utilities; $50/hr on groceries; $75/month on cellphone because I have no landline; and also have collection agencies after me because I defaulted on credit cards. I really can't pay a bill of $2800. To top it off, I told the paramedics I had no way of paying this and they told me the city would. I went in because I couldn't stop regurgitating and felt I was going to puke my liver out. So I… [cont.]

A. Just file Bankruptcy. It sucks, but the sooner you get it over wtih the better. Bankruptcy judges are fairly sympathetic to people with medical expenses.

What can I do with a degree in applied buisiness and financial services?
Q. I want to go to college to get my bachelors degree in financial services. (Stocks, insurence, investments, ect) However I know that banks are trying to lower the number of workers they have and I dont want to end up selling insurance or anything like that. I would like to trade up stocks or tell companies how to better spend they're money. Can I do that with this degree? What could I do with it? Thanks! 10 points for reasonable answer!

A. Well if you don't want to go into financial services, one option you could consider is consulting. Consulting will give you better exposure to different clients, industry sectors, and business environments than working for a bank anyway. You will also have more control and be able to take full ownership of your career. You can position yourself more towards service side if you like "doing" and getting direct involvement in all the actions. Or you can align yourself more to advisory roles if you like "advising" and having a broad vision of the overall engagement and where it's heading. The job is not routine. It is very dynamic. As you go from one client to another, the challenges come in different twists of flavor. Your work will always… [cont.]

What factors allow a country such as Bermuda to have such a high financial services industry?
Q. I've seen that Bermuda's economy depends mostly services - that is, financial services for other countries. How do certain countries (like Luxembourg) get to do that? Is it strong connections with other countries or something?

A. Bermuda has a legal structure permitting banks to refuse disclosing account holder information and also maintains minimal tax activities on wealth and transactions with and within Bermuda.
