GNU Free Documentation License what is the difference between brokers and carrier moving companies? Q. I am planning on moving to AZ in June and I am trying to find a good moving company. I keep hearing that I shouldn't use brokers but use carrier movers instead but I can't seem to find any good information on why. Are broker moving companies scammers? What is so bad about them? I guess I'm confused because I've talked to carriers and brokers and they were all insured offer the same services etc. They only way I knew that some were brokers and others were carriers is because I went to protectyourmove.gov. A broker is a middleman that finds a carrier for you. Brokers are not inherently bad, they can serve the purpose of price shopping for you and can have access to discounts that you don't have (because they book lots of moves). The moving industry can be a bit shady in general and there are both brokers and carriers that are bad apples. The important thing is to research all the companies you are considering thoroughly to make sure that you don't pick one of the bad apples.
